Paintings by David Fast

In 1957, at the age of twelve, David received his first formal training in watercolor by well known California watercolorists, Rex Brandt, George Post and Phil Dyke. Majoring in fine arts at the University of Redlands and Claremont Graduate School ( both in California), David turned to using acrylic paint. Because of an unusually large studio space on campus, he was able to create huge modern landscapes ( some as large as 12′ x 10′). These paintings concentrated on depicting nature in very two dimensional forms but evoked volume and distance. However, everything was to change as the Vietnam conflict ramped up during David’s graduate work. Instead of waiting to be drafted, David joined the military and for some odd set of circumstances became a Special Agent for U.S, Army Intelligence. This experience then led him farther afield into a larger role as a federal law enforcement agent with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

Needless to say, much of David’s artistic endeavors took a back seat to his new career, one that he has never regretted. There were periods throughout his 33 year law enforcement career where he returned to painting ~ both watercolors and acrylics. After retirement, his artistic ventures returned, and David now spends a good deal of his work week in his studio. Many of his paintings are available for sale at AG Antiques, in Houston, TX, where he and his wife, Karen, operate a gallery and folk art shop offering high end, museum quality one of a kind artistic creations from all over the world.
